A massive storm cell is moving into the Phoenix metro area. This video is from North Scottsdale near Bell Road and Scottsdale Roads. The severe thunderstorms are moving across the whole valley tonight. These thunderstorms will drop heavy rainfall.
Strong Severe Storm
Phoenix NBC TV is reporting that 4,000 SRP customers are without power at this time. Channel 5 TV is reporting that this storm is 40 miles wide! Also this stations power is out at this time. The TV station is running on backup power.
Scottsdale Police Department dispatchers handled 92 calls for service in the first 15 minutes of the storm. [video]
Massive Thunderstorm
At 9:30 PM tonight the Phoenix Airport measured a 75 MPH thunderstorm wind gust. Amateur radio is reporting that at 10:10 PM a 85 MPH thunderstorm wind gust was measured at 16th Street and Thomas Roads. [video]
