Driving to Tom's Thumb Trailhead


There is temporary parking at the trailhead. No amenities at the site off 128th Street and south of Rio Verde Drive. The road is not maintained. Drive at your own risk.

The future Tom's Thumb trail head access area will be located 23015 N. 128th St. at the southeast corner of North 128th Street and East Pinnacle Peak Road.

The City of Scottsdale is building a new trailhead access area for the McDowell Sonoran Preserve on 94 acres. The Tom's Thumb trailhead improvements will include 200 passenger vehicle parking spaces, 10 horse trailer parking spaces, shed, equestrian ramada, and trailhead which includes restroom facilities, drinking fountain, interpretive display information and shaded gathering areas.

The facility will provide public access to McDowell Mountain, including McDowell Mountain Regional Park, Tom's Thumb, Marcus Landslide trails and rock climbing areas.
